Several of these regions also include optional bosses knowns as the Valkyries - 5 of them should be your target (leaving the Valkyries in Muspelheim and Niflheim - and the Valkyrie Queen for later). There are also side quests (called Favors) given out by certain allies and other NPCs that will take you to certain regions that can't be accessed otherwise, and once unlocked you can collect everything in that area before moving on. Once you have completed the main story and return from the final story realm, you'll have the tools needed to explore all of the regions and get to any collectible in the game. Picking up collectibles as you find them is fine, but know that you'll likely have to return to each region anyway after completing the game. While some smaller non-collectible chests may become unobtainable as the layout of certain regions change, no collectibles that you pass by can be missed, and most of the gold Legendary Chests and rune-sealed Nornir Chests are often along the main path for these regions.
